Certified as being medicinal mineral in 1904, Aigua de Vilajuïga has been appreciated for its purity by gourmets and literary people ever since:
SALVADOR DALÍ'S FAVOURTIE WATER
1- In an article published in Hora Nova in September 1997 under the headline “Good Water” journalist Emili Casadement wrote “We had the honour to have lunch with SALVADOR DALÍ several times – usually at Duran Hotel in Figueres and to be precise in its Celler de Ca la Teta-… and he never drank any wine, only some water. But Dalí did not drink any kind of water; I mean any kind of water in the market. Far from that. The genius from Portlligat knew exactly what to choose and thus he drank Aigua de Vilajuïga, which apart from being fine, has medicinal virtues internationally acknowledged for years.” And he finishes the article saying “But for me, Aigua de Vilajuïga is unique as it was for SALVADOR DALÍ.”
Josep Pla in his book “Trip to old Catalonia” (1942) emphasized its quality “In Vilajuïga there are excellent waters, considered as the best for the kidneys in Europe. I could back up the quality of Aigua de Vilajuïga with testimonies of many people I have met around the world, even in the most unthinkable places. It was extremely well-known in Europe. It can be found in train restaurants of the most important European railway companies.” |
